I just got my hands on an advance copy of Naomi Pollock‘s new book on Japanese product design: “Made in Japan, 100 New Products.” I’ll be doing a Q&A with the author in The Japan Times on October 2, but I wanted to send out a heads-up.
Pollock spent the last two years immersed in Japanese product design, conducting hundreds of interviews. The result is a stylish, insightful book that brings a worthy subject to an international audience. The intro provides context and historical background but casual readers can open to any page because each product essay stands on its own.
Holiday Shopping Hint: there are products here you will want, for yourself or others. The book itself would make a great gift for folks back home because it teaches so naturally what we love about Japan. It ships on Sept. 18; you can pre-order on Amazon US and Amazon Japan
and from the publisher, Merrell.
More photos. Do I ever want that pebble toweling bathmat!
Oh No! Another book I must have. Thanks for the heads up. Your Japan Times columns are treasures.
